The brand-new planetarium at Gujarat Science City, in Ahmedabad, embodies the future of scientific immersion. Inaugurated last May within a 12,800 m² Astronomy and Space Science Gallery, it positions India as one of the world’s key destinations for contemporary science communication. Its monumental 18-meter dome, tilted at 15° and seating 173 visitors, makes it one of the most ambitious installations in the country.
At the heart of this landmark project, RSA Cosmos was entrusted with the complete integration of the projection system, working hand-in-hand with its partner Orbit Animate, who played a crucial role in design, consultation, project management, and close supervision throughout the journey.
The theatre is a true technological masterpiece, combining:
Together, these technologies achieve the perfect balance: the optical system preserves the timeless brilliance of the stars, while the digital system opens the door to dynamic exploration and cutting-edge scientific content.
To bring this vision to life, RSA Cosmos integrated the Christie Griffyn 4K35-RGB projectors, delivering outstanding brightness, ultra-high 6K resolution, and true-to-life color rendering. Combined with RSA Cosmos’ unmatched integration expertise, these projectors set a new benchmark in image quality, fully aligned with the bold ambitions of Gujarat Science City.
At the center of the system, SkyExplorer powers the immersive experience by fully harnessing the potential of the hybrid optical-digital system and active 3D projection. Spectators enjoy breathtaking visuals, unmatched scientific accuracy, and an unparalleled sense of realism.
Through SkyExplorer, the planetarium also gains access to some of the most extensive and impressive astronomical databases. Visitors can track the real-time trajectories of thousands of artificial satellites, explore hundreds of comets and asteroids from specialized catalogs, or dive into the mysteries of pulsars and globular clusters. These constantly updated datasets ensure that each session evolves with the pace of discovery, making every experience unique.
Each show is designed to turn the audience into active explorers of the universe. Visitors can witness the complexity of planetary movements, follow the dynamics of the solar system, or grasp the birth and evolution of distant galaxies with extraordinary precision. The combination of a starball projector, active 3D, and the powerful imagery of digital projection transforms every session into a truly timeless experience.
With this project, RSA Cosmos once again demonstrates its unique expertise in the design and integration of hybrid projection systems. From the starball to the digital platform, every component was carefully engineered and integrated to deliver an experience that is both spectacular and educational.
