In 2024, this emblematic venue experienced a true technological renaissance thanks to RSA Cosmos, world leader in planetarium solutions, in collaboration with its key local partner Merak Cosmos, and with the support of SMI. Together, they transformed the visitor experience by equipping the planetarium with ultra-high-definition 8K projection, redefining the immersive journey offered to the public.
The installation relies on six Barco XDM 4K25 projectors, whose power and precision ensure a faithful reproduction of the sky and its phenomena. Combined with the powerful SkyExplorer astronomical software and FreeDome, a simulation software dedicated to STEM, these systems guarantee full access to scientific content, educational shows, and the creation of immersive experiences. For the first time, audiences in Shenzhen can explore the universe with unprecedented clarity, as if they were truly traveling through space.
Beyond projection, the planetarium is now equipped with a production station, enabling local teams to create and customize their own content. RSA Cosmos and Merak Cosmos also provided a full training program for the planetarium’s mediation teams, ensuring full mastery of the technical tools and software. This autonomy strengthens the role of the site as both an educational and scientific platform, while fostering local innovation.
Thanks to this ambitious renovation, the Shenzhen Children’s Palace Planetarium is entering a new era. Already renowned for its interactive exhibitions, from space exploration to underwater wonders, it now stands as one of the most modern planetariums in Asia. A place where technological innovation serves science and imagination, inspiring entire generations of young explorers.
