By renewing its projection system under the 12.2-meter dome, the museum now delivers a 4K resolution experience characterized by stunning realism, deep blacks, and vibrant colors, powered by a dual Sony GTZ-380 setup.

At the heart of this 120-seat theater is SkyExplorer, the most powerful astronomical simulation software. Designed to bridge the gap between complex scientific data and captivating storytelling, SkyExplorer allows presenters to navigate the universe in real-time with unparalleled smoothness. The software’s intuitive design ensures that technical complexity never stands in the way of education, allowing the museum’s team to focus on creating breathtaking journeys for their guests.

Karisa Zdanky, Astronomy Program Manager at Tellus Science Museum, highlights the impact of this collaboration:
“Since the beginning, we have had a great experience with SkyExplorer. The RSA Cosmos team was open about everything that was happening during the install, and the hands-on training after was completely dependent on our needs as an institution. They have also made themselves available to answer any questions or help with any issues we have.
In terms of using the system, we currently have 17 staff members who can give a live tour of the night sky with SkyExplorer. The user-friendly interface made it easy to train everyone on how to use the system. In particular, the tag system is a favorite of ours to keep everyone’s live tour personalized and in one place! Since we upgraded to SkyExplorer, our guests have truly been more wowed!”

The combination of high-end Sony projection and SkyExplorer’s realistic rendering has redefined the visitor experience at Tellus. Guests are now immersed in a “stunningly real” cosmos where every star and galaxy is rendered with extreme precision. This leap in visual quality, paired with the museum staff’s ability to provide highly personalized live tours, ensures that every show under the dome is a unique and breathtaking event.
