Founded in 1838, ARTIS is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world. It stands out for its rich heritage and its commitment to biodiversity, education, and knowledge sharing. With over 700 animal species, a botanical garden, 27 historic buildings—including an 1882 aquarium, two museums including Micropia (the first and only museum in the world to make the invisible world of microorganisms visible), a 1867 library, and a planetarium inaugurated in 1988—ARTIS is a unique space where nature, science, and culture coexist.
Within this prestigious setting, ARTIS is launching a visionary project:
the construction of the world’s first 10K LED Hyperdome—a new kind of planetarium. Equipped with a 20-meter-wide LED dome, it will offer unmatched image quality, striking brightness, and full immersion.
More than just a planetarium, the Hyperdome paves the way for a wide range of uses: shows, concerts, conferences, artistic and scientific events… It’s a hybrid space where the boundaries between science, culture, and entertainment disappear.
Following two years of thorough comparative study, ARTIS selected RSA Cosmos to design and install this extraordinary solution. This choice was driven by the outstanding technical and technological performances of RSA Cosmos’ solutions—both hardware and software—and by the quality of its human approach: attentive listening, expertise, pedagogical support, and strong commitment.

RSA Cosmos will provide a fully integrated, tailor-made solution combining cutting-edge hardware (10K LED Hyperdome) and next-generation software to deliver an experience that matches Artis’ ambition: to create the most innovative and immersive planetarium in the world.
Thanks to the deployment of the latest LED dome technologies, RSA Cosmos will enable Artis to offer an image quality never before seen by its audience.

SkyExplorer, internationally recognized as the leading astronomical simulation software, allows for real-time exploration of the universe through accurate scientific data and visuals of unparalleled beauty. It currently powers hundreds of planetariums around the world.
FreeDome, perfectly aligned with ARTIS’ vision, is fully optimized for ultra-high-resolution LED screens. It is dedicated to showcasing natural sciences, life, and biodiversity through educational, emotional, and artistic experiences tailored to all audiences. It also empowers ARTIS’ teams to create their own content, personalize visitor journeys, and offer original programming.
