RSA Cosmos built the 14-meter dome with 8K projection at the Sainte Catherine Planetarium (Sinai, Egypt)

An immersive experience between historical heritage and cutting-edge astronomical technology at the heart of the Great Transfiguration Project

At the heart of the Sinai Peninsula, in one of Egypt’s most emblematic and spiritual sites, RSA Cosmos is proud to have equipped the new Sainte Catherine Planetarium alongside its partner Quality Egypt. This achievement is part of the prestigious Great Transfiguration Project, a national-scale program aimed at enhancing the cultural, spiritual, and tourist heritage of the region through modern and educational infrastructures.

This unique planetarium creates an unprecedented link between the observation of the cosmos and a territory shaped by several millennia of history.

An immersive planetarium designed by RSA Cosmos

To meet the cultural and educational ambitions of the Great Transfiguration Project, RSA Cosmos delivered a complete planetarium solution, combining visual performance, immersive sound, and the latest-generation astronomical simulation software.

A high-technology infrastructure

The planetarium is equipped with a 14-meter-diameter dome, designed by Endurescreens, capable of accommodating 120 seats to offer the public a collective immersive, comfortable, and spectacular experience. Projection is delivered in 8K resolution, thanks to a system composed of five Sony GTZ380 projectors, ensuring exceptional image quality, high brightness, and ideal contrast for exploring the sky, planets, and galaxies. The experience is enhanced by a 7.1 sound system, enabling sound spatialization that immerses visitors at the heart of astronomical journeys and scientific narratives projected under the dome.

The SkyExplorer suite at work

Beyond the hardware infrastructure, RSA Cosmos integrated its complete software suite to  deliver a top-level educational and interactive experience.

The planetarium is equipped with SkyExplorer, the most powerful astronomical simulation software, recognized for its realistic renderings, scientific accuracy, and ease of use; and with FreeDome, which complements the SkyExplorer suite and enables the creation of immersive content, customized educational pathways, and interactive presentations tailored to all audiences.

These tools allow local teams to offer a wide range of programs, from discovering the night sky to journeys through the solar system and the deep universe.

A new center of science and culture serving the Great Transfiguration Project

The Sainte Catherine Planetarium becomes a major attraction for visitors, pilgrims, school groups, and science enthusiasts. It strengthens the site’s role as an international cultural and educational destination by combining historical heritage with technological innovation.

This achievement perfectly illustrates RSA Cosmos’ mission: to place technology at the service of knowledge transmission and wonder, in places where the history of humanity meets the immensity of the cosmos.

“We are very happy to have built this planetarium with RSA Cosmos, the world leader in planetariums. It was a project that was both very close to our hearts, and important for the country. Having the opportunity to carry it out with such a company was an obvious choice. The final result is spectacular, featuring state-of-the-art technology, and the SkyExplorer simulator is truly unmatched. It is wonderful for the Egyptian community to have such a facility in our country.” – Mohammed Attia Quality Egypt

RSA Cosmos, partner of exceptional astronomical projects

By equipping the Sainte Catherine Planetarium, RSA Cosmos confirms its expertise in the design and realization of high-end immersive planetariums around the world. This project also reflects its long-term commitment to supporting its users through sustainable, reliable, and evolving solutions, ensuring lasting performance and educational impact in sites that are both prestigious and rich in meaning. From the heart of the Sinai, under a 14-meter dome and in 8K projection, visitors are now invited to explore the universe where, for millennia, humanity has looked up at the stars.

About Sainte – Catherine

A millennia-old site at the foot of Mount Sinai
The Sainte Catherine region is world-renowned for its famous monastery, founded in the 6th century under the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the location lies at the foot of Mount Sinai, a sacred place for Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions.

For centuries, this territory has been a place of contemplation, knowledge transmission, and sky observation.
